Latest News in the Show World
The following is a letter from the Board of Directors that will be in the next IntlBGA magazine explaining the cancellation of the National Show and replacing it with three Regional shows.
TO: ALL OF OUR MEMBERS

Hello Everyone,

We, the Board of Directors, were faced with making one of the most difficult decisions we have been challenged with - to cancel and not hold an International Boer Goat Association 2008 U.S. National Show.

With the economy as it is, the following factors were just some of what was taken into consideration in making this decision: rising costs in fuel, feed, medicine, travel, lodging, day to day living, business operation and several other things.

Our membership is strong and rising although our registrations and transfers in comparison to years past are slow coming in. Here again, the economy is to be reckoned with; as well as the dozens of breeders over the last few years that have dispersed their herds and the large number of goats that are out of the picture, and let's not forget the crazy weather patterns of these most recent years. The Boer Goat Industry is not a phase as were many novelty and livestock animals of the past. Our nation's culture is changing and more goat meat is being consumed in the US than ever, and the demand will continue to increase. The Boer goat has adapted very well here; it is up to each of us to adapt to continue to grow the Association.

Wise management and spending were other areas taken into consideration in making this decision, by spending wisely while our economy stabilizes. We must look ahead and continue the daily business operations, trust our members to send in their registrations and transfers, and to continue to manage and increase their herds. After all, that is the Association's business. The Board of Directors had the entire membership to consider, not just the 30% that show. We could not justify a $60,000 National Show.

For those members that show, there are three (3) Regional Shows. Those Regional Shows will each need sponsors to defray expenses, support from exhibitors and many helpers - shows do not happen on their own. Those members that can afford it, could attend all three (3) Regional Shows and could really rack up ennoblement points on their animals. Hopefully, there is at least one (Regional Show you could attend:

  • Eastern Regional, Saturday, May 24th in Cullman, AL (with a separate 2nd International Show on Sunday, May 25th), call 205-647-2359 to request a brochure or information.
  • Western Regional, Saturday, July 26th, in Dixon, CA call 707-483-6303 to request a brochure or information
  • Central Regional, Friday, June 27th, Wether Show, Saturday, June 26th Youth & Percentage Show, Sunday, June 27th Full Blood Does and Bucks. Greenville, Texas. Call 432-425-8000 to request brochure or information.

Having said all these things, the International Boer Goat Association is the best Association and it is strong; the members will not allow it to be anything less. The Association is not folding as you will be hearing. Please feel free to call any member of the board if you have more questions.

We truly do have each member's best interests and concerns at heart.

Respectfully,

Board of Directors of the International Boer Goats Association
