The objective of the page is to list issues and problems with IntlBGA and the board that members hear about or see. This is not a list of problems or issues to cause breeders to reject joining IntlBGA or leaving the association. This is a list that must be accumulated for preparing for a strategic planning session to better understand concerns of the members, priorities of the issues and if/when resolutions/solutions need to be developed and implemented.

Please help add to this list so it can be the basis for how the board needs to improve the association and better utilize the association finances.

2 04/28/08

Board does not communicate to the members, on a quarterly basis, the financial status of the assoc.

3 04/28/08

Board has no job descriptions for the office personnel.

4 04/28/08

Board has no organizational chart  resulting in many directors giving the office personnel directions on what to do and how to do it. There must be only one boss and one voice directing the office personnel.

5 04/28/08 Board has required all committees to be chaired and co-chaired by directors even though that is not in the bylaws.
6 04/28/08

Committees are being filled with family members of directors. Some times having a director and a family member on the same committee.

7 04/28/08

The IntlBGA web site info on ennoblement points is out of date

8 04/28/08

During the 2007-2008 term of this board, the membership has actually gone down.

9 04/28/08 No audits are being done to validate how the board is spending the association's money.
10 04/28/08 Thousands of dollars was spent on some registration software for the office and then someone decided it was not the right software.
11 04/28/08 March of 2008 the board was planning on what type of trophies to give at the National Show. One month later they were canceling the National Show because of lack of money. What changed in 30 days?
12 04/28/08 The board let the cancellation of the National Show dribble out to the industry through the rumor mill and caused serious damage to IntlBGA's reputation.
13 04/28/08 Seven out of ten committees have one or more members directly associated with one director. Director Alice Thompson, her husband Billy Thompson, her brother Bobby Watts and his significant other Michelle McAfee.
14 04/28/08 17% of all of the committee members with close ties to director Alice Thompson.  Director Alice Thompson, her husband Billy Thompson, her brother Bobby Watts and his significant other Michelle McAfee. Alice's  brother and his significant other are also  Regional Coordinators.
15 04/28/08 IntlBGA has ten committees at this time but only four directors are the chairperson for all ten committees. Director Alice Thompson is chairperson for 20% of all the committees. If only one more director that chairs a committee decided to always vote the same way as Alice Thompson did, that percent could go to 40-50% of the committees controlled by just two directors and 17% of the committee members would have close family ties to Alice.
16 04/28/08 How did the board allow the committees to be dominated by the Alice Thompson and her brother's families since the board approves who is on each committee? Who nominated those family members to the positions. If Alice nominated her own family members, that would seem unethical. She is the chairperson for the Ethics committee, right? Nepotism is when family members or friends get special treatment within an association or business.
17 05/06/08 The Titled Animal Search does not work.
18 05/06/08 There is no person assigned the responsibility for the web site
19 06/30/08 The ballots for the 2008 elections were published with an incorrect return address causing many lost votes by the members
20 06/30/08 There is no director assigned primary responsibility for the magazine.
21 06/30/08 Votes by Members with a ranch membership are are counted as two votes vs votes by members with an individual membership are counted as one vote
22 06/30/08 The by-laws state the Regional Coordinator position is voted upon by the regional members but there is no limitation to their being in that position.
23 06/30/08 The by-laws state the Regional Coordinator position is voted upon by the regional members but in 2008, the board just assigned a member to a regional coordinator position without the regional members having any say. The board went against the by-laws.
24 06/30/08 There are no official process for how regional coordinator's interface with the board
25 06/30/08 The board has not been communicating with the regional coordinators in any manner.
26 06/30/08 There is no description of what makes up each regional area.
27 06/30/08 The registration papers do not show any titles on the pedigree for any parentage animals other than the one being registered.
28 06/30/08 The registration fees by IntlBGA are higher than ABGA's fees
29 06/30/08 There is no additional value between the individual and ranch membership other than the votes by members with a ranch membership are counted as two instead of one.
30 06/30/08 There are only a limited number of sanctioned IntlBGA shows in the Texas/Oklahoma area.
31 06/30/08 There is no strategic plan done to better guide the board's action
32 06/30/08 The committees do not have any documented goals and objectives to guide the committee members.
33 06/30/08 The board of directors are not elected by a specific region of the country therefore members do not have a specific director to speak for them or carry their regional message to the board.
34 06/30/08 There is no description of the Ennoblement program on the web site or any benefits documented.
35 06/30/08 There is no page on the web site to congratulates the breeders and lists animals that have been awarded Ennoblement titles.
36 06/30/08 Currently the board does not require any financial justification before any committee or project is implemented
37 06/30/08 As of the end of June, there has been no report from the Internet and Web Site committee in over one year. This is a critical communication and marketing tool for the association that has been ignored by director Alice Thompson which is the chairperson for the committee.
38 07/01/08 There is no vision or strategy that guides the board as to how IntlBGA will compete against the other Boer associations.
39 07/02/08 Why is there a need for an "Endowment Member" category in the by-laws? It allows the board to allow any non-member person or organization to vote in any election.
40 07/02/08 There is no listing of who are Endowment members and I have never seen a notice of when an Endowment membership was given.
41 07/02/08 There is no renewal period for an Endowment member. Once this is given, it is forever.
42 07/02/08 The by-laws state "The Board of Directors shall consist of not less than seven (7) members, nor more than nine (9) members. " It doesn't state why there would be a different number of directors. Vacant seats are replaced by the board.
43 07/02/08    Section 1 A.        The Board of Directors shall consist of not less than seven (7) members, nor more than nine (9) members.

Section 3.         Number and Tenure. .....  At any time or from time to time there shall be no fewer than five (5) Members of the Board of Directors, nor more than nine (9) Members of the Board of Directors.

44 07/02/08 " No Member of the Board of Directors shall be absent without excuse for three (3) consecutive Board of Directors meetings (excluding meetings held by facsimile or teleconference). "

Teleconference meetings should be the easiest to attend instead of being excluded. This means a director could miss a face to face meeting in January,  teleconference meetings in February, March, April, May and another face to face meeting in June and still be in good standing. That is one half of the year.

45 07/02/08 The board is not required to give any notice of when meetings will occur. Example from by-laws:

Annual Meeting -" A regular annual meeting of the Board of Directors shall be held, without other notice than this Bylaw provision, at any time during a month to be selected by the Board of Directors, at a place and time to be designated by the Board of Directors."

46 07/02/08 The by-laws state that no more than three days notice is required prior to having a board meeting.
47 07/02/08

"Notice of meetings. Neither the business to be transacted nor the purpose of any regular or special meeting of the Board of Directors need be specified in the notice or waiver of notice of such meeting unless specifically required by law or by these Bylaws."

48 07/02/08

Executive Advisor - The current board of directors includes a member labeled as "Executive Advisor". This is the past president of the board. There is nothing stating whether this person does or does not have voting rights on the board.
